Rescuers walk lost hikers out of Pawtuckaway State Park after dark

Conservation officers and Nottingham firefighters and police hiked in to reach a group that could not find its way back to its car after sunset on the Shaw Trail, New Hampshire Fish and Game said.

NOTTINGHAM, N.H. — A group of hikers who lost their way after dark on a trail in Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham was found and walked out by rescuers late on Oct. 24, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Monday.

The agency said it was told at about 7 p.m. that hikers were lost on the park's Shaw Trail and could not find their way back to their car after the sun had set. Conservation officers went to the Fundy Trail along with the Nottingham Fire Department and the Nottingham Police Department.

Responders parked their vehicles where the Shaw and Fundy trails meet and hiked about half a mile along the Shaw Trail toward the group, Fish and Game said. Rescuers reached the hikers at about 11 p.m.

Rescuers walked the group back to the trail intersection and then took them to the trailhead, where the Nottingham Fire Department gave the hikers medical attention, according to the agency.

Fish and Game did not say how many hikers were in the group, identify them or describe any injuries.
