Shelburne man charged with second DUI after car hits sign on Interstate 89

Vermont State Police said a driver reported to have struck a road sign at an Interstate 89 on-ramp in Waterbury was later stopped in Williston and charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene.

WILLISTON, Vt. — A Shelburne man was charged with driving under the influence, second offense, and leaving the scene of a crash after police said his car hit a road sign at an Interstate 89 on-ramp in Waterbury and he was later stopped on the highway in Williston, Vermont State Police said Monday.

Police said that at about 3:09 p.m. on Oct. 29, someone reported an erratic driver who had struck a road sign while getting onto Interstate 89 northbound from Exit 10 in Waterbury.

Troopers found the car and pulled it over for a traffic violation, according to state police. While speaking with the driver, Joshua Trudo, 36, troopers saw signs that he was impaired, police said. Trudo was given a sobriety screening and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

He was taken to the state police barracks in Williston and released with a citation to appear Nov. 19 in Chittenden County Superior Court to answer the charges, police said.

The charges are allegations, and Trudo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
