Rhode Island stocking trout in 14 ponds and streams ahead of Veterans Day
The state Department of Environmental Management said rainbow and brook trout will go into ponds from Burrillville to Little Compton through Nov. 10 in honor of veterans.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is stocking rainbow and brook trout in 14 ponds, lakes and rivers across the state ahead of Veterans Day, the agency said Thursday.
The special stocking, which DEM said is being done in honor of veterans, began Thursday and runs through Nov. 10.
The waters being stocked are Barber Pond and Tucker Pond in South Kingstown; Carbuncle Pond in Coventry; Meadow Brook Pond in Richmond; Olney Pond at Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln; Round Top Ponds and Tarkiln Pond in Burrillville; Shippee Sawmill Pond in Foster; Silver Spring Lake in North Kingstown; Simmons Mill Pond in Little Compton; Stafford Pond in Tiverton; Watchaug Pond in Charlestown; Willett Pond in East Providence; and the Wood River in Exeter, at the Route 165 check station and the area known as "The Pines."
Anglers 15 and older need a 2026 Rhode Island fishing license, and a Trout Conservation Stamp is required to keep or possess trout, according to DEM. The agency said the stamp is not required for residents 65 and older, people with a 100% disability, landowners and their families fishing on property where they live, people keeping trout taken from a lake or pond on the state's border, and people with privately owned trout caught in privately owned waters, among others.
Fishing licenses can be bought online through DEM's Rhode Island Outdoors portal. The agency said it will post stocking updates on its Division of Fish and Wildlife Facebook page.
