Boston man pleads guilty to illegally possessing rifle sold to undercover agent

Elydes Zorrilla, 22, admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition after prosecutors said he had a semi-automatic rifle while selling it to an undercover agent.

BOSTON — A Boston man pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston on Oct. 21 to illegally possessing a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition, which prosecutors said he had while selling them to an undercover agent, the U.S. attorney's office for Massachusetts said Friday.

Elydes Zorrilla, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. A federal grand jury indicted him in May.

According to prosecutors, Zorrilla had the rifle and assorted ammunition on Dec. 30, 2025, in the course of selling them to the undercover agent.

Zorrilla is barred from having guns or ammunition because of earlier convictions in state court, prosecutors said, including a conviction in Boston Municipal Court for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton has scheduled sentencing. The charge carries up to 15 years in prison.

The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
