White Stadium reaches topping-off milestone in Boston's Franklin Park
Crews have set the final structural beam at the renovated stadium, which will serve Boston Public Schools athletes and the professional women's soccer club Boston Legacy FC, the city said.
BOSTON — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston Legacy FC controlling owner Jennifer Epstein and Boston Public Schools leaders marked the placement of the final structural beam at White Stadium in Franklin Park at a topping-off ceremony, the mayor's office said Friday.
The city said the milestone completes the stadium's structural framework, with nearly 2,500 tons of steel now in place. The beam was signed by students, residents, Boston Legacy FC players and local officials.
Crews will next work on utility connections, install precast panels, and waterproof and enclose the building so interior work can continue through the winter, according to the city. Later work will cover interior spaces, the track and field facilities, and landscaping.
When finished, the stadium will have 10,500 permanent seats, a natural grass field and an eight-lane track built to MIAA standards, the city said. It will remain owned by Boston Public Schools, and the city said 95% of its use is reserved for district students and school programming.
The city said the project includes $252 million in privately funded community benefits over 15 years, which it called the largest such agreement in Boston's history. It said $61 million in contracts have gone to local, women-owned and minority-owned businesses, including $35 million to women-owned firms, $23 million to minority-owned firms and $16 million to Black-owned firms.
The city held four community meetings in September and surveyed residents on parking near the park; more than 800 responded. A transportation plan is expected in winter 2027.
"Our players deserve a true home in this city," Epstein said.
