Killingworth woman charged with driving under the influence after police say she passed a trooper at 102 mph
Connecticut State Police said Kristine Kriksciun, 58, tailgated a trooper's cruiser on Route 9 in Old Saybrook before speeding past it. She faces drunken-driving and reckless driving charges.
OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. — A Killingworth woman has been charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving after a state trooper said she tailgated his cruiser on Route 9 in Old Saybrook and then sped past it at about 102 mph, Connecticut State Police said Tuesday.
Kristine Kriksciun, 58, of Killingworth, was pulled over at about 4:34 p.m. Nov. 2 on Interstate 95 southbound near Exit 68, police said.
According to police, a trooper from Troop F in Westbrook was driving in the left lane of Route 9 southbound near Exit 2 when he noticed a dark Acura TLX following so closely behind the cruiser that its headlights could not be seen. The car drifted out of its lane and was going about 80 mph before it moved into the right lane and passed the cruiser at about 102 mph, police said.
The trooper said Kriksciun showed signs of possible impairment and that containers that appeared to hold alcoholic drinks were in plain view inside the car. She agreed to field sobriety tests, but police said she did not perform the first tests to standard and the testing was stopped for safety reasons.
Kriksciun was arrested and taken to the Troop F barracks in Westbrook, where she was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and reckless driving, police said.
She was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 16 in Middletown Superior Court.
The charges are allegations, and Kriksciun is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
