Essex Town man accused of impaired driving after crash into Belvidere porch

Vermont State Police say Benjamin Nault, 37, hit a parked car and the front porch of a home on Route 109, then drove off before troopers found him nearby.

BELVIDERE, Vt. — An Essex Town man is accused of driving while impaired, crashing into a parked car and the front porch of a home in Belvidere, and then leaving, Vermont State Police said Friday.

Benjamin Nault, 37, is charged with driving under the influence, negligent operation of a vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash, according to state police.

Police said they were told shortly after 5 p.m. Oct. 29 that a vehicle had hit a parked vehicle and the front porch of a house on Route 109 in Belvidere, causing damage, and that the driver had left.

Troopers found the vehicle a short distance away on Route 109 and identified the driver as Nault, police said. While speaking with him, troopers saw signs of impairment, according to the release. After a screening, Nault was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

He was taken to the Morristown Police Department for processing and released with a citation to appear in Lamoille County Superior Court on Nov. 18, police said.

The charges are allegations, and Nault is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
