West Springfield man sentenced to 10 to 11 years for Holyoke shooting that paralyzed a man

Jeyver Pabon-Flores, 23, pleaded guilty in the July 2025 shooting of a Ludlow man, who was left paralyzed, the Hampden district attorney's office said.

HOLYOKE, Mass. — A West Springfield man has been sentenced to 10 to 11 years in state prison for a July 2025 shooting in Holyoke that left a man paralyzed, the Hampden District Attorney's office said Thursday.

Jeyver Pabon-Flores, 23, was sentenced Oct. 26 after pleading guilty to armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery by firearm, and carrying a firearm without a license, prosecutors said.

According to the district attorney's office, Holyoke police went to Sargeant Street at about 2:30 a.m. on July 24, 2025, after a ShotSpotter alert indicated four shots had been fired. Officers found David Carvalho, 36, of Ludlow, with a gunshot wound to his back.

Carvalho was taken to a hospital, and his injuries left him paralyzed, prosecutors said.

Police obtained surveillance video from nearby cameras that captured the shooting and a car believed to have been involved, the office said. Other footage showed the driver of that car getting out at the Racing Mart in Holyoke shortly before the shooting.

Investigators later identified Pabon-Flores as the shooter, according to prosecutors. No motive was established, the office said.
