Quebec woman hurt in two-car crash on Route 78 in Swanton

A driver from Bedford, Quebec, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries after an SUV swerved to avoid her turning car and struck it, Vermont State Police said.

SWANTON, Vt. — A Quebec woman was hurt Oct. 28 when an SUV trying to avoid her car as she turned left struck it on Vermont Route 78 in Swanton, Vermont State Police said.

Jennifer Gagnon, 55, of Bedford, Quebec, was taken to Northwestern Medical Center with moderate injuries, police said. The other driver, Wesley Tender, 23, of Au Sable Forks, New York, was not hurt.

According to police, both drivers were heading west on North River Street, as that stretch of Route 78 is known, at about 11:40 a.m. Gagnon, driving a 2008 Toyota RAV4, was turning left into a parking area when Tender, behind her in a 2027 Kia Telluride, veered left into the oncoming lane to try to avoid her.

The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane and came to rest off the eastbound shoulder, police said. The RAV4 had substantial damage to the driver's side, and the Telluride was damaged in the front.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, police said. The weather was overcast and the road was dry.
