Two drivers hurt in Shaftsbury crash on Route 7A

Vermont State Police said a 78-year-old Shaftsbury driver failed to yield while turning onto Route 7A at Old Depot Road and was struck by an SUV. Both drivers had minor injuries.

Two drivers suffered minor injuries Saturday when an SUV struck a car turning onto Vermont Route 7A in Shaftsbury, Vermont State Police said.

The crash happened at about 12:23 p.m. at the intersection of Route 7A and Old Depot Road, police said.

According to police, Barbara Bacchi, 78, of Shaftsbury, was turning right from Old Depot Road to head north on Route 7A in a 2014 Subaru Forester when she did not yield to a northbound 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Nathan Bachiochi, 44, of Arlington. The Tahoe hit the Forester, leaving significant front-end damage on both vehicles, police said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and had apparent minor injuries, according to police. Police listed Southwestern Vermont Medical Center as the hospital for Bacchi and no hospital for Bachiochi.

Police said a civil violation complaint was pending. No court action was listed. The weather was cloudy and the road was dry at the time, police said.
