New Haven man sentenced to 5 years for selling drugs from Branford hotel room

Terrence Davis, 41, was found with cocaine, fentanyl and cash in the same hotel room on two occasions months apart, federal prosecutors said.

A New Haven man was sentenced Wednesday to five years in federal prison for selling fentanyl and cocaine out of a hotel room in Branford, according to the U.S. attorney's office for the District of Connecticut.

Terrence Davis, 41, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sarah F. Russell in New Haven to 60 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty June 30 to possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and 500 grams or more of cocaine.

Prosecutors said members of the FBI's Safe Streets Gang Task Force developed evidence that Davis was selling fentanyl and crack cocaine from the Branford hotel. Investigators bought drugs from him on Oct. 15, 2025, prosecutors said, and a court-authorized search of his hotel room two days later turned up nearly 700 grams of cocaine, more than 70 grams of fentanyl, drug packaging materials and $13,867 in cash.

Davis was arrested on state charges after that search and released on bond, according to prosecutors. The case was later taken up for federal prosecution, and he was indicted Jan. 7.

When federal agents arrested Davis on Jan. 8, a search of the same hotel room turned up about 60 grams of fentanyl, 25 grams of crack cocaine and seven grams of powder cocaine, prosecutors said. He has been held since that arrest.

The New Haven Police Department and the Connecticut State Police also worked on the case, the U.S. attorney's office said.
