New Britain man sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for cocaine trafficking

Arnaldo Perez-Rios, 28, pleaded guilty to possessing more than 500 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute after investigators found about 770 grams in a storage unit he used, federal prosecutors said.

A New Britain man was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison for drug trafficking, according to the U.S. attorney's office for the District of Connecticut.

Arnaldo Perez-Rios, 28, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 60 months in prison, to be followed by four years of supervised release, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, members of the FBI's Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force and the New Britain Police Department bought fentanyl from Perez-Rios in controlled purchases in May 2025. Investigators also learned that he was using a storage unit in New Britain as part of his drug trafficking, prosecutors said.

A court-authorized search of the unit on July 24, 2025, turned up about 770 grams of cocaine and materials used to package drugs, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Perez-Rios was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on Aug. 11, 2025. He pleaded guilty June 9 to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, prosecutors said.

Perez-Rios had been free on bond and was ordered into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service at the end of the sentencing hearing, the office said.
