Montgomery man hurt when car leaves road and hits tree in Richford

Keith Sampietro, 68, was taken to a hospital in St. Albans with what Vermont State Police described as suspected minor injuries.

RICHFORD, Vt. — A 68-year-old Montgomery man was taken to a hospital with suspected minor injuries after his car left a road in Richford and hit a tree Thursday, Vermont State Police said.

Troopers from the St. Albans barracks were called to the single-car crash on South Richford Road at about 12:09 p.m., police said. They found a 2010 Volkswagen Eos that had gone off the road and struck a tree, heavily damaging the front of the car.

The driver, Keith Sampietro, was wearing a seat belt, according to police. He was taken to Northwest Medical Center in St. Albans. The car was too badly damaged to be driven and was towed from the scene.

Police did not say what caused the crash. The weather was clear and the road was dry at the time, according to the state police.
