Latvian hiker hurt in fall on Glen Ellis Falls Trail walks out with rescuers' help
A 43-year-old woman from Latvia fell on rocky steps near Glen Ellis Falls in Pinkham's Grant, N.H., and was helped back up the trail by search-and-rescue volunteers and a conservation officer, New Hampshire Fish and Game said.
A hiker from Latvia who was hurt in a fall on the Glen Ellis Falls Trail in Pinkham's Grant, N.H., walked back out with help from rescuers on Oct. 21, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Thursday.
Fish and Game was told about an injured hiker on the trail at about 5:45 p.m., according to the department. The caller said a 43-year-old woman had fallen on a section of rocky steps and was hurt badly enough that she could not walk out on her own.
The department identified the hiker as Leva Lase, 43, of Gauja, Latvia. She had been hiking down to see the falls with her husband when she fell, officials said.
Conservation officers and volunteers from Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue went to help. A paramedic with the volunteer group was the first rescuer to reach her and examined her, the department said. Several other members of the group and a conservation officer carried a rescue litter down the trail, but Lase was able to walk back up with assistance.
Lase and the rescuers reached the parking lot at about 7:05 p.m., where she was checked by Gorham Ambulance staff, according to Fish and Game. She declined to be taken by ambulance and chose to seek medical treatment on her own, the department said.
The release did not describe the nature of her injury.
