Two Enosburg men arrested on outstanding warrants, state police say

Troopers looking for one man on an unrelated case arrested him and a companion when the two arrived at the home, according to Vermont State Police.

Two Enosburg men were arrested on outstanding warrants Oct. 3 after they arrived at a home in Enosburg where state troopers were trying to reach one of them, Vermont State Police said Sunday.

Troopers from the St. Albans barracks went to the home at about 7 p.m. to follow up with Eric Benware, 44, on an ongoing case, police said. Police did not describe that case.

While troopers were there, Benware arrived with Jacob Leach, 29, according to police. Troopers knew both men had active warrants for their arrest, police said.

Benware's warrant was for disorderly conduct involving a fight, and Leach's was for a first-offense charge of driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both, according to police.

Both men were taken to Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans and were held on $200 bail, police said. They were ordered to appear in Franklin County Criminal Court on Oct. 5.

The charges are allegations, and both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
