Worcester police arrest two men on cocaine trafficking, fentanyl and gun charges

Vice detectives serving a search warrant at a Mott Street apartment found cocaine, fentanyl pills and what police described as an apparent ghost gun, the Worcester Police Department said.

Worcester police arrested two men on drug and gun charges after serving a search warrant at a Mott Street apartment on Sept. 29, the Worcester Police Department said Wednesday.

Vice detectives had a warrant for the apartment and were watching it when Juan Vargas, 43, the target of the warrant, left, police said. Detectives stopped him a short distance away on Barclay Street and found three knotted bags of cocaine in a shoulder bag he was wearing, according to the department.

Detectives and other officers then went to the second-floor apartment and forced their way in after knocking and getting no answer, police said. They found Kola Anjorin, 44, in a bedroom.

In what police described as Vargas' bedroom, detectives found about 40 grams of cocaine packaged for sale, a large amount of marijuana and suspected psychedelic mushrooms packaged for sale, and drug packaging materials, the department said.

In Anjorin's bedroom, police said, they found numerous pressed fentanyl pills packaged for sale, drug packaging materials and an AR-style handgun loaded with a 30-round magazine. The gun had no visible serial numbers and appears to be a so-called ghost gun, police said. Anjorin does not have a license to carry a firearm or a firearms identification card, according to the department.

Vargas is charged with trafficking in 36 to 99 grams of cocaine. Anjorin is charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, possession of a large-capacity firearm, use of a firearm while committing a felony, improper storage of a large-capacity firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

The charges are allegations, and both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
