Boston police arrest Dorchester man, seize loaded gun on Blue Hill Avenue

Pascual Diaz-Baez, 32, was arrested late Sept. 20 after officers responding to a report of a man with a gun found a loaded pistol in his coat pocket, police said. He is presumed innocent.

Boston police arrested a 32-year-old Dorchester man and seized a loaded handgun on Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury late Sept. 20, the department said.

Officers from the department's Roxbury and Mattapan districts were sent to the street about 11:45 p.m. after a radio call reporting a man with a gun, police said. According to the department, officers were told a man in a red cap, black coat and blue jeans was armed and pointing a gun at people.

When officers arrived, they saw a man matching that description keeping his right hand inside his coat pocket and shielding his right side, police said. Officers patted him down and felt a heavy metal object in the right coat pocket, according to the department, and recovered a gun before handcuffing him. Police identified the man as Pascual Diaz-Baez and said a check showed he did not have a license to carry.

Detectives who processed the gun determined it was a green and black Polymer80 pistol loaded with four 9 mm rounds and one round in the chamber, police said.

Diaz-Baez was expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, police said. The department said he also had two outstanding felony warrants out of the same court, one on charges of distributing Class A and Class B drugs and the other on a charge of receiving stolen property worth more than $1,200.

The charges are allegations, and Diaz-Baez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
