Pickup and car collide on Route 100 in Pittsfield; no injuries reported

A 20-year-old Bethel driver could not stop in time when a pickup slowed ahead of him on Route 100 Saturday morning, Vermont State Police said.

Two vehicles collided on Route 100 in Pittsfield, Vermont, on Saturday morning when a car struck the back of a pickup truck that had slowed for traffic, Vermont State Police said. No one was reported hurt.

The crash happened at about 8:53 a.m. near Hadley Lane, according to troopers from the Rutland barracks.

Police said Kyle Thygesen, 52, of Tunbridge, was driving a 2025 Ford F-150 south on Route 100 and slowed down for another vehicle that was moving slowly ahead of him. Nesmith Sulham, 20, of Bethel, was driving a 2017 Ford Taurus behind the pickup. Sulham braked but could not avoid hitting the truck, police said.

The Taurus sustained moderate damage to its front end, and the pickup had minor damage to its rear, according to police. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no injuries were reported, police said.

Weather was clear and the road was dry at the time, police said. The Pittsfield Fire Department also responded.

A Vermont civil violation complaint is pending, according to state police. The release did not say whom the complaint would be issued to or what violation it would cite.
