Boston police say driver had loaded gun, drugs after Mattapan traffic stop
Starlin Bonnet, 24, of Roslindale faces gun and drug charges after officers stopped his car near American Legion Highway, Boston police said. Three passengers were arrested on outstanding warrants.
A Roslindale man faces gun and drug charges after Boston police said they found a loaded pistol in a car he was driving during a traffic stop in Mattapan on Sept. 28.
Starlin Bonnet, 24, is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court, the Boston Police Department said Tuesday. The charges are allegations, and Bonnet is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Officers on patrol in the Franklin Field area noticed a black Honda sedan with heavily tinted windows idling at the corner of Westview Way and Ames Street at about 6:15 p.m., police said. The car later turned right onto Blue Hill Avenue at a red light despite a "No Turn on Red" sign and without signaling, according to police. Heavy traffic kept officers from pulling it over until it reached the area of American Legion Highway.
As officers approached, police said, they saw Bonnet reach behind the front seats toward the rear passenger-side floor. Officers later found a fanny pack on the floor that held a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with 15 rounds, including one in the chamber, police said. None of the four people in the car had a license to carry, according to police. Officers also found a knife on Bonnet, police said.
During booking, officers found bags containing substances believed to be heroin and crack cocaine, along with two loose rounds of ammunition, police said.
Bonnet is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possessing ammunition without a firearms identification card, possessing a large-capacity firearm, two counts of drug possession and two traffic violations.
The three passengers, Edwin Pinet, 40, of Roslindale; Brendan McManus, 36, of Hyde Park; and Jessica Colby, 36, of Hanson, were arrested on outstanding warrants, police said.
