Boston police arrest Dorchester man in string of armed robberies

John Kennedy, 38, was arrested in Mattapan on Sept. 2 and is charged with armed robbery and trespassing in connection with knifepoint holdups in Dorchester, police said.

Boston police arrested a 38-year-old Dorchester man in connection with a series of armed robberies in Dorchester, the department said Thursday.

Officers and detectives from the department's Mattapan district arrested John Kennedy about 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 2 on Westcott Street, police said. Kennedy was already wanted on two warrants, out of Suffolk Superior Court and Lawrence District Court, on charges including armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, larceny from a person and strangulation, according to police.

He is also charged with armed robbery and trespassing and was expected to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court, police said.

Police said officers were called to Harvard Street in Dorchester about 7:59 a.m. on Aug. 28 for a report of an armed robbery in which a man showed a knife and ran off with about $250. Later that evening, about 9:23 p.m., officers went to Norfolk Street in Dorchester, where a convenience store was robbed at knifepoint and the robber fled with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

A third robbery was reported about 5:52 p.m. on Aug. 31 on Park Street in Dorchester, where police said a store employee was assaulted and about $1,500 was taken.

The charges are allegations, and Kennedy is presumed innocent unless and until he is convicted.
