North Andover man seriously hurt in trail bike crash on Cobb Hill Trail in Harrisville

A 63-year-old Massachusetts man riding with a large group hurt his left leg after hitting a rock beyond a downed tree, New Hampshire Fish and Game said. His injury was not life-threatening.

A North Andover, Massachusetts, man was seriously injured in a trail bike crash on the Cobb Hill Trail in Harrisville, New Hampshire, on Oct. 3, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Mark Tavano, 63, was riding the trail with a large group when he came to a small downed tree, conservation officers said. As he tried to get past it, he hit a rock on the other side, lost his balance and hurt his left leg. The department described the injury as serious but not life-threatening.

Tavano called for help, and conservation officers were notified shortly before 4 p.m., the department said. Other riders in his group took his bike back to the trailhead while he waited.

Harrisville firefighters, Cheshire EMS and Fish and Game conservation officers responded. Firefighters brought Tavano off the trail on a four-wheeler, and Cheshire EMS took him to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene to be evaluated, according to the department.

Tavano was wearing a helmet, pads, proper footwear and other safety gear, Fish and Game said in a statement Monday, and the department urged riders to use caution on technical terrain.
