Falmouth man pleads guilty to laundering money from $6 million Medicare fraud scheme
Leo Anzivino Jr., 35, admitted serving as the straw owner of a Rochester, N.H., medical supply company that prosecutors said billed Medicare for braces patients never ordered.
A Falmouth, Massachusetts, man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Concord to conspiring to launder proceeds of a health care fraud scheme that billed Medicare more than $6 million, the U.S. attorney's office in New Hampshire said.
Leo Anzivino Jr., 35, pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering conspiracy before U.S. District Judge Landya McCafferty. He faces up to 10 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 21, 2027.
According to prosecutors, Anzivino agreed to be listed as the owner of Advanced Medical Supply Corp. in Rochester, New Hampshire, while his co-conspirators actually owned and ran the company. Advanced then billed Medicare for knee braces, back braces and other medical equipment that patients did not need and doctors did not prescribe, supporting the claims with fake physician orders, prosecutors said. Medicare paid more than $3 million.
Some patients mailed the equipment back with notes saying they had not ordered it, including one that called it a "FRAUD!!" and another that said "This Must Be Some Type of Medicare Scam," according to the release.
Prosecutors said Anzivino also gave a New Hampshire bank false paperwork claiming he was the company's sole significant owner. When that bank questioned his attempt to move more than $1 million to companies tied to a co-conspirator, he opened an account at another bank with branches in Massachusetts.
After learning Advanced would lose its ability to bill Medicare, Anzivino messaged another person that his co-conspirator "still wants me to wire him money" and said he would not, prosecutors said. Over the next five weeks, he wired $1,494,938.09 in three transactions.
The government seized about $353,768 from Advanced's bank account in 2024, prosecutors said.
