Boston police said Jarrid Campbell, 23, was arrested after officers stopped a car near Martin Luther King Boulevard and found a handgun with a scratched-off serial number. A 28-year-old man died after being shot on Warren Street.

A 23-year-old Randolph man has been charged with murder in a shooting on Warren Street in Roxbury that killed a 28-year-old man, Boston police said.

Officers from the department's District B-2 station in Roxbury were called to a ShotSpotter alert near 306 Warren St. at about 9:23 p.m. on Aug. 29 and found a man who had been shot several times, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police identified him as Junior Sosa Fernandez, 28.

Other officers got a description of the suspect's car and later found a parked car matching it near Martin Luther King Boulevard, according to police. Officers pulled in behind the car and stopped it, and as they walked up they saw what police described as ballistic evidence in the back of the car. The driver was taken out of the car and arrested, and officers found a handgun in his pants during a search, police said. The department said the gun was a 9mm Glock 43x with the serial number scratched off.

Police identified the man arrested as Jarrid Campbell, 23, of Randolph. He was expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card.

The charges are allegations, and Campbell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
