Wallingford woman charged with trespassing after lying in the road, police say

Vermont State Police say Patricia Travers, 61, returned to a Wallingford convenience store she had been barred from and blocked traffic on North Main Street. She was arraigned in Rutland the same day.

A 61-year-old Wallingford, Vermont, woman is facing trespassing and other charges after state police say she returned to a convenience store she had been barred from and then blocked traffic by lying in the road.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police barracks in Rutland were called to a Cumberland Farms on North Main Street in Wallingford at about 8:57 a.m. Friday for a reported trespassing complaint, according to the state police.

Investigators determined that Patricia Travers had gone back to the store after being told she was not allowed there, police said. Before troopers arrived and while she was speaking with them, Travers blocked traffic on North Main Street by lying in the roadway, according to the release.

Travers was arrested and charged with unlawful trespass, disorderly conduct and attempting to escape. State police said she tried to escape custody while being processed at the Rutland barracks.

She was driven to Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division, and was scheduled to be arraigned at 12:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

The charges are allegations. Travers is presumed innocent unless and until she is proven guilty.
