West Charleston woman seriously hurt in single-car crash at Orleans gas station

Vermont State Police said the driver was going fast on Route 58, could not stop for stopped traffic and hit a pillar next to the gas pumps at the Maplefields in Orleans.

A 54-year-old West Charleston woman was seriously injured when her car crossed a gas station parking lot in Orleans and hit a pillar beside the pumps, Vermont State Police said.

Troopers, the Orleans Fire Department and Orleans Ambulance were called to the Maplefields station on Main Street at about 5:20 p.m. Sept. 16 for a report of a single-car crash, police said.

Police identified the driver as Angiemarie Hart. Investigators found that Hart was driving east on Vermont Route 58 at a high rate of speed and was unable to stop safely as she came up on stopped traffic, according to state police. She drove into the Maplefields lot, crossed it and hit a pillar next to a gas pump, police said.

Hart was seriously hurt and was taken to Dartmouth Hospital, police said. She was wearing a seat belt, according to the release. Her 2013 Chevrolet Impala was totaled.

The roads were dry and the weather was sunny at the time, state police said.

Troopers at the Derby barracks are still investigating and asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at 802-334-8881.
