Nashua man pleads guilty to robbing Citizens Bank branch

Mario Monserrate Morgan, 41, admitted to handing a teller his backpack in June and leaving with $645, federal prosecutors in New Hampshire said. He was caught about 10 minutes later.

A Nashua man pleaded guilty Friday in federal court in Concord to robbing a Citizens Bank branch in the city, according to the U.S. attorney's office for New Hampshire.

Mario Monserrate Morgan, 41, pleaded guilty to unarmed bank robbery, U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan's office said.

On the afternoon of June 9, Morgan walked into the Citizens Bank branch on Main Street in Nashua carrying a black backpack, prosecutors said, citing court documents and statements. After waiting in line for a few minutes, he went up to a teller, leaned over the counter with the backpack and said, "Put the money in the bag and don't press any buttons," according to prosecutors.

The teller put $645 into the backpack and Morgan left the bank, prosecutors said. Nashua police caught him a short distance away about 10 minutes after the robbery, and the cash from the bank was inside his backpack, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

The Nashua Police Department led the investigation, with help from the FBI.

Morgan faces up to 20 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2027.
