Hartland man charged with domestic assault and unlawful restraint

Vermont State Police said Ross Gilbert, 37, hurt and restrained a household member at a Hartland home. He was held on $10,000 bail.

HARTLAND, Vt. — A Hartland man was arrested on charges of domestic assault and unlawful restraint after a family fight at a home in Hartland on Oct. 23, Vermont State Police said.

Troopers from the Royalton barracks were called to the home at about 7:45 p.m. after a report of a family fight, according to a police news release issued Saturday. After speaking with the people there, police said, troopers determined that Ross Gilbert, 37, had caused pain and fear to a household member and had restrained that person.

Gilbert was arrested and taken to the Hartford Police Department for processing, police said. He was cited, given conditions of release and held at Southern State Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail.

Police did not identify the household member or describe their relationship to Gilbert. State police do not release the names of domestic violence victims.

Gilbert is due to be arraigned Oct. 26 in Vermont Superior Court in Windsor County, according to police, who noted that court dates are subject to change.

The charges are allegations, and Gilbert is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
