Daytime paving work to begin on Route 1A in Brewer and Holden
The Maine Department of Transportation said daytime lane closures will add to night work already underway on a stretch of Route 1A, and it urged drivers to expect delays or find other routes.
The Maine Department of Transportation will begin daytime paving work on Route 1A in Brewer and Holden on Sept. 28, the agency said, and drivers should expect delays.
Crews will work from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as part of a highway preservation paving project that also includes drainage and safety improvements, according to MaineDOT. The daytime work adds to night work that began Aug. 2.
The department said daytime work will continue until Oct. 2, and night work will end Oct. 23.
The project runs 2.79 miles, beginning 0.24 of a mile northwest of the Holden town line and extending southeast, the agency said. Paving of the center turn lane and both travel lanes starts at the railroad overpass next to Interstate 395 and the Route 9 Connector and runs east about 1.7 miles, to a point east of Copeland Hill Road.
Crews will pave one of the road's three lanes at a time and use the other two to keep traffic moving in both directions throughout the work, the department said.
MaineDOT said drivers should use other routes if they can, and told those who must drive through the work zone to pay close attention.
The contractor is Eurovia Atlantic Coast/Northeast Construction of Bangor. The contract is worth $2,673,857.80, according to the department.
