Boston police arrest Brockton 19-year-old on gun charges in Mattapan

Officers on patrol near Blue Hill Avenue stopped a group around a parked car and found a loaded handgun in a bag, police said. Giovanny Remy is due to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

A 19-year-old Brockton man was arrested in Mattapan on Aug. 29 after officers found a loaded handgun in a bag he had been carrying, the Boston Police Department said.

Police said officers assigned to District 3 in Mattapan were on patrol near Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road about 9 p.m. when they saw a group of men standing around a car parked in a no-parking zone at Columbia Road and Wolcott Street.

As officers spoke with the group, they noticed that one of the men took a cross-body bag off Giovanny Remy and put it in the car, according to the department. When officers asked what was in the bag, one of the men said it held a gun and that he had a license to carry, police said.

Officers arrested Remy because he was too young to legally possess a gun and did not have a license to carry, the department said. Detectives who examined the gun found it was a Shadow Systems MR920 9mm loaded with 10 rounds and fitted with a flashlight, according to police.

Remy is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, police said.

The charges are allegations, and Remy is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
