Swanton man, 22, cited in stolen-car crash, Vermont State Police say

State police say Anthony Cline took a car from a Swanton home on Sept. 21 and wrecked it later the same day, then left the scene. He is due in Franklin County Superior Court.

A 22-year-old Swanton man is facing charges of grand larceny, aggravated operation of a car without the owner's consent and leaving the scene of a crash, the Vermont State Police said.

Troopers at the St. Albans barracks were called about 8:17 a.m. Sept. 21 about a car taken from a home on S. River Street in Swanton, police said. Nancy Barkyoumb, 76, of Swanton, told police that Anthony Cline, of Swanton, had taken the car, according to the state police.

The same car was wrecked later that day in a crash, and the driver ran off, police said. Investigators spoke to Cline on Sept. 23 and concluded that he had taken the car, driven it without the owner's permission and left the crash scene, the state police said.

Cline was arrested and taken to the St. Albans barracks, where he was cited to appear in Franklin County Superior Court at 1 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The charges are allegations. Cline is presumed innocent unless and until he is convicted.
