Grantham man dies after being found unresponsive on Wentworth mountain bike trail

John Borger III, 55, could not be revived after he was found on the Thunder Chicken Trail in the Green Woodlands Foundation trail system, New Hampshire Fish and Game officials said.

A 55-year-old Grantham man died Oct. 18 after he was found unresponsive while mountain biking on a trail in Wentworth, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Monday.

The department identified him as John Borger III. Officials said the department was notified at about 2:30 p.m. that a mountain biker had been found unresponsive on a trail in the Green Woodlands Foundation trail system, and that people on the trail had already begun trying to save him.

Firefighters from the Wentworth and Rumney fire departments and Plymouth Fire Rescue, along with Green Woodlands staff and Fish and Game conservation officers, went to the Thunder Chicken Trail. Borger could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m., the department said.

Working with the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, crews carried his body to the trailhead on Rowentown Road, where an assistant deputy medical examiner and funeral home staff met them.

The department's release headline described the incident as a medical emergency, but officials did not say what caused Borger's death.
