Vermont attorney general announces 10th annual legal community food and diaper drive

Attorney General Charity Clark said the two-week drive, run with the Vermont Foodbank and two legal groups, begins Sept. 4. Organizers said the effort has raised more than $99,000 over nine years.

Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark said Friday that the 10th annual Vermont Legal Community Fighting Hunger Food and Diaper Drive will begin Sept. 4 and run through Sept. 18.

The drive is organized by the attorney general's office with the Vermont Foodbank, the Vermont Bar Association and the Vermont Paralegal Organization, the office said. Law offices around the state raise money and collect food, diapers and other basic goods for Vermonters in need.

Over the past nine years, according to the attorney general's office, the state's legal community has raised more than $99,000 and donated more than 14,600 food items and other necessities, including diapers.

Lawyers, paralegals, law students, law offices and others who want to take part can set up an online fundraising page through the Vermont Foodbank, host a collection box for food or diapers, or both, the office said. The office asked interested participants to contact it for details.

Clark, in a statement, said the effort is "especially critical at a time when families are facing rising food prices and efforts to scale back federally funded food and nutrition programs."
