Vermont State Police said a Jeep driven by a Ware, Massachusetts, man crossed the center line and struck a pickup truck and an SUV. The driver was flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

A Massachusetts man was seriously injured Sept. 30 when the Jeep he was driving crossed the center line on Vermont Route 9 in Marlboro and struck two oncoming vehicles, Vermont State Police said Thursday.

Michael Hannum, 65, of Ware, Massachusetts, was heading west on Route 9 near Staver Road at 4:14 p.m. when his 2026 Jeep Wrangler drifted into the eastbound lane and hit a 2020 GMC Sierra pickup and a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, both traveling east, according to state police.

Hannum was flown by the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with serious injuries, police said. His Jeep was totaled.

The driver of the pickup, David Shade, 71, of Cogan Station, Pennsylvania, was not hurt, and his truck had minor damage to the rear, police said. The driver of the Traverse, Russell B. Hawkins, 67, of Chesterfield, Virginia, had minor injuries and was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. The Traverse was totaled.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts, according to police. The weather was clear and sunny at the time of the crash, which happened in Windham County.

State police said the crash is under investigation and asked anyone who saw it to call the state police barracks in Westminster.
