Boston police say loaded handgun found in fanny pack during Dorchester stop

Officers arrested a 20-year-old Boston man after a stop at Blue Hill Avenue and Glenway Street, police said. He faces four firearm charges and is presumed innocent.

Boston police arrested a 20-year-old city man on four firearm charges after a stop at the corner of Blue Hill Avenue and Glenway Street on Aug. 29, the department said.

Officers from the department's B-3 district, which covers Mattapan, were on patrol along Blue Hill Avenue between Wales Street and Geneva Avenue about 4:20 p.m. when they noticed Kanell Hogan, of Boston, who was wearing a black and gray camouflage mask and a large flag draped over his back with a fanny pack underneath, according to police.

Officers said they approached Hogan to talk to him and that he turned his body away from them and stepped to his left as they spoke. Police said officers then patted him down and felt an L-shaped object in the fanny pack. When they opened the pack, police said, they saw the handle of a gun.

The gun was a .40-caliber Glock 27 loaded with 14 rounds, according to the department.

Hogan was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card and possession of a large-capacity firearm, police said.

The charges are allegations. Hogan has not been convicted and is presumed innocent.
