Driver unhurt after SUV hits power pole on Route 104 in Fairfax

A 28-year-old Fairfax woman was not hurt when her Subaru Forester left Vermont Route 104 and snapped a utility pole, bringing lines down, Vermont State Police said.

A Fairfax woman escaped injury Wednesday morning when her SUV went off Vermont Route 104 in Fairfax and struck a power pole, snapping it and bringing down lines, Vermont State Police said.

Troopers from the St. Albans barracks were called to the single-vehicle crash at about 6:34 a.m. They found a 2025 Subaru Forester in the ditch on the north side of the road, with the broken pole behind it and power lines on the ground, according to police.

The driver, Raina Fiarkoski, 28, of Fairfax, was not hurt, police said. She was wearing her seat belt, and the car's airbags deployed.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said the Subaru appears to have left the right side of the road and traveled down the ditch until it hit the pole. The SUV was damaged on the front passenger side, the hood and the roof.

The weather was clear and the road was dry at the time, police said. The release did not say what caused the car to leave the road.

Fairfax firefighters and rescue crews responded, along with Green Mountain Power, the utility.
