Vermont State Police seek information on trailhead signs stolen in Mad River Valley

Troopers say signs and trail maps were taken from trailheads in Waitsfield, Fayston and Warren, and the Mad River Path Association is asking for help recovering them.

The Vermont State Police are asking for the public's help identifying who took trailhead signs from three towns in central Vermont, the agency said in a news release issued Sunday.

Troopers received a report of the thefts on Aug. 22 at 8:27 a.m., according to the release, which listed an incident location of 4061 Main St. in Waitsfield. State police said the signs were taken from trailheads in Waitsfield, Fayston and Warren.

A subsequent investigation indicated that the signs were removed by unscrewing clear plastic protectors and taking the dog signs and trail maps from inside, according to state police.

The executive director of the Mad River Path Association is seeking assistance in recovering the stolen signs, the release said. State police included a photograph of one type of sign that was taken.

No one has been charged. State police listed the accused and any court action in the case as pending.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact the Vermont State Police barracks in Berlin or submit a tip through the agency's website, according to the release.
