Two hurt after pickup hauling trailer catches fire on I-95 in Auburn

Maine State Police said the driver may have fallen asleep before the truck ran off the highway, hit a guardrail and burned. He is to be cited for driving without a license.

Two men were seriously hurt when a pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailer ran off Interstate 95 in Auburn and caught fire, Maine State Police said.

Troopers were called to the southbound side of the highway near mile marker 74 about 8:35 p.m. Sept. 3, police said.

According to the state police's preliminary investigation, the Ram pickup drifted off the right side of the road, struck a speed limit sign and a guardrail, jackknifed and caught fire. Investigators believe the driver may have fallen asleep before the crash, police said.

The driver, 40-year-old Juan-Manuel Munoz Rosquete of Tampa, Florida, and a man riding with him got out of the truck, police said. Both were seriously hurt but their injuries were not considered life-threatening, and both were taken to area hospitals.

State police said Munoz Rosquete will be cited for driving without a license. A citation is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent unless proved otherwise.

The southbound lanes were closed while crews worked at the scene and reopened once it was cleared, police said.
