More than 200 job seekers turn out for Connecticut labor department hiring expo in Hartford

The sixth annual job fair, held with the Hartford Athletic soccer club at Trinity Health Stadium, drew 45 employers recruiting in manufacturing, health care, government and other fields, the state Department of Labor said.

More than 200 job seekers and 45 employers turned out Wednesday for the sixth annual hiring expo run by the Connecticut Department of Labor and the Hartford Athletic professional soccer club at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford, the department said.

Employers were recruiting across most career levels and in industries including manufacturing, government, health care, hospitality and police work, according to the department. Job seekers did not have to register to attend, and everyone who came received a free ticket to a Hartford Athletic home match. The expo ran until 2 p.m.

Deputy Labor Commissioner Mark Polzella and Hartford Athletic Chief Executive Bruce Mandell opened the event, joined by Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz and Administrative Services Commissioner Michelle Gilman.

Polzella said face-to-face hiring events help counter barriers that have come with advances in artificial intelligence. "Meeting face-to-face is a personal approach that helps both job seekers and employers gauge opportunities," he said.

Gilman, whose agency oversees state hiring, said state service offers competitive pay and benefits along with chances for professional growth.

Hartford Athletic plays in the United Soccer League.
