South Hero man sentenced to eight months in Grand Isle package theft case

Kevin Manning, 43, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft or attempted theft of mail and one count of possession of stolen mail, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont. Investigators recovered more than $13,000 in stolen goods across two searches.

A South Hero, Vermont, man was sentenced to eight months in prison for stealing mail, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont said.

Kevin Manning, 43, was sentenced on Aug. 18, by U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Lanthier to eight months' imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release, prosecutors said. The first four months of supervised release are to be served on home detention.

Manning previously pleaded guilty to three counts of theft or attempted theft of mail and one count of possession of stolen mail, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Citing court records, prosecutors said the Grand Isle Sheriff's Department began receiving reports in early December 2025 from residents of Grand Isle, Vermont, that packages shipped to them were missing from porches and mailboxes. Investigators identified Manning as the likely suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence on Dec. 24, 2025, recovering about 120 items, the office said. Manning admitted the items were stolen, according to prosecutors.

The sheriff's department received additional reports of missing packages after that search, and law enforcement executed a second search warrant at Manning's residence on Feb. 13, recovering more items, the office said. Prosecutors said Manning again admitted to stealing packages.

Goods recovered in the two searches were worth more than $13,000 and included winter coats, home safety equipment, medical equipment, prescription medication and checks, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

The office said the case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Grand Isle Sheriff's Department, the Vermont State Police, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department and the Essex Police Department.
