Boston opens registration for Mayor's Cup youth soccer tournament at two sites

Teams of Boston students in grades 3 through 12 will play over two weekends at East Boston and South Boston fields, with the first registration deadline Oct. 13.

Boston has opened registration for its Mayor's Cup Soccer Tournament and Festival, which will be held at two locations, Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department said Sunday.

Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will play Oct. 24-25 at the Boston Scores Soccer Fields in East Boston. Students in grade 6, grades 7 and 8 combined, and high school will play Nov. 7-8 at Moakley Park in South Boston, the city said.

Boys and girls in each age group will compete in a competitive Premier Division and a recreational division. Games will be seven-on-seven, and rosters are capped at 15 players. Teams must supply their own uniforms and are guaranteed at least three games, according to the city.

Teams in grades 3 through 5 must register by Oct. 13 and submit final rosters by Oct. 16. Teams from grade 6 through high school must register by Oct. 26, with final rosters due Oct. 30.

Wu said the city was adding two new locations to expand the tournament. Diana Fernandez Bibeau said the tournament would have "two weekends of play, more divisions, and more opportunities for young people across Boston."

The tournament is presented by the parks department. Boston Scores donated time on its fields, the city said. Registration information is posted on the city's parks and sports website.
