Poultney man charged with drugged driving after troopers find him asleep at wheel

Vermont State Police said a passerby reported a man sleeping behind the wheel of a car in a Dollar General parking lot in Poultney. Jamie Vaccaro, 40, was cited on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

POULTNEY, Vt. — A Poultney man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a car in a Dollar General parking lot in Poultney, Vermont State Police said Sunday.

Troopers from the state police barracks in Rutland were on patrol in Poultney at about 7:13 p.m. on Oct. 31 when a passerby told them someone was sleeping behind the wheel of a car in the parking lot of the Dollar General on Beaman Street, according to police.

Troopers spoke to the driver, whom they identified as Jamie Vaccaro, 40, of Poultney. Police said troopers noticed several signs of impairment while talking with Vaccaro.

Vaccaro was arrested and taken to the Rutland barracks for processing, police said. He was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland on Dec. 28.

The charge is an allegation, and Vaccaro is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Police did not say what drug was suspected or whether any tests were performed.
