Barre City man arrested on DUI warrant after his car hits stopped Subaru in Danville
Vermont State Police said a Lexus struck a Subaru that had just hit a deer on U.S. Route 2, and troopers then found its driver was wanted on a Washington County warrant.
DANVILLE, Vt. — A Barre City man was arrested on an outstanding warrant Wednesday after the car he was driving struck another car that had just hit a deer on U.S. Route 2 in Danville, Vermont State Police said.
Police said troopers were called at about 5 a.m. to a report of a car hitting a deer on U.S. Route 2 East. Justin Lopez, 39, of Danville, was driving a Subaru Crosstrek east when it struck the deer, according to police. A short time later, a Lexus IS driven by Michael Pereira, 28, of Barre City, struck the Subaru, police said.
No injuries were reported, and both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to police. The Subaru was damaged in the front and rear, and the Lexus in the front.
While investigating the crash, troopers learned that Pereira was wanted on an active warrant out of Washington County on charges of driving under the influence and negligent driving, police said. He was also ticketed for driving without a valid license, failing to register a car and failing to carry liability insurance, according to police.
Pereira was taken to the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury and held on $100 bail, police said. He was scheduled to appear in Washington County court Oct. 29.
The charges are allegations, and Pereira is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
