Driver killed in Windham collision with box truck on Route 111A
Windham's fire department said paramedics could not save the driver of the car. The victim has not been named, and officials have not said what caused the collision.
WINDHAM, N.H. — A driver was killed on Oct. 30 when a car and a box truck collided on Range Road in Windham, according to the Windham Fire Department, whose account was reported by Boston 25 News.
"Windham EMS provided aggressive medical treatment on scene, but unfortunately due to the seriousness of injuries, the patient did not survive," the department wrote on its Facebook page, as quoted by Boston 25 News.
Officials have not released the driver's name, age or hometown. Investigators have not determined what caused the collision, the station reported, and neither news report said which agency is leading the inquiry.
Two people were riding in the truck. Firefighters evaluated both, and each turned down care, Boston 25 News said, citing the department's post.
The car's driver was trapped in the wreck. A medical helicopter had been summoned, but it was called back after the department said the driver was in "traumatic arrest." Rescuers then freed the driver, and Windham EMS paramedics worked on the patient at the crash site. Those rescue details were reported only by Boston 25 News, which credited the fire department.
The crash happened near 94 Range Road, a stretch that carries Route 111A. Traffic was kept off the road for several hours, the station reported.
An earlier account from The Eagle-Tribune differs in several ways. The newspaper described a single-vehicle crash and did not mention a truck. It reported that the car's lone occupant was pinned and unresponsive when responders arrived and that the driver was critically injured; it did not report a death. The Eagle-Tribune also said crews were sent at about 11:30 a.m. and that the crash blocked Route 111A late in the morning.
