Man, 59, wounded in neck in knife attack at Copley Station; suspect arrested

Transit police said the attacker followed the victim from the street onto a Green Line platform and was caught soon after he ran off. The man's injuries were not considered life-threatening.

BOSTON — A knife attack on a Green Line platform at Copley Station in Boston left a 59-year-old man with a neck wound on the night of Nov. 2, and officers arrested the suspected attacker not long after he ran from the scene, according to reports citing MBTA Transit Police.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, and his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, NBC Boston and The Boston Globe reported. Only NBC Boston, citing transit police, reported his age.

The stabbing happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. on the station's westbound platform, NBC Boston reported. Investigators believe the two men had some kind of run-in on the street outside before the attack. WHDH 7News reported that transit police called it an argument, and that police said the attacker trailed the victim into the station and down to the platform, attacked him there and then fled.

Transit officers tracked down the man and arrested him, NBC Boston and WHDH reported. Boston police also responded, according to NBC Boston.

The first accounts of the attack differed. The Globe, citing a statement from a Boston police spokesperson, reported that officers were sent to the area of 640 Boylston St. near Copley Square around 8:20 p.m. after a report of a stabbing, and that no arrest had been made at that point. Later reports citing transit police said a suspect was in custody.

None of the outlets named the victim or the suspect, and none reported what charges the suspect faces or when he is due in court.
