ROLLINSFORD, N.H. — A driver died before dawn on Oct. 31 when a car left Rollins Road in Rollinsford, slammed into a tree and burst into flames, the Newport Dispatch reported.
The driver was the only person in the car. Early findings indicate it was heading north at high speed and failed to stay on the road through a curve, according to the Dispatch. The outlet described the speed only as a preliminary finding and did not say whether anything else played a role.
Emergency crews were called at 4:27 a.m. to a report of a one-car crash and a car fire near Wentworth Greenhouse. The first responders on scene found the car burning against the tree, and once firefighters had extinguished the flames, they discovered the driver dead inside, the Dispatch reported.
The driver's name was being withheld until relatives could be notified. The report did not give the driver's age or hometown, or say what kind of car was involved.
Rollinsford police and firefighters responded along with Dover Fire and Rescue. The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office, the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Strafford County Accident Reconstruction Team joined the investigation, and an autopsy was scheduled, according to the outlet.
Rollins Road stayed closed for about five hours while crews investigated and cleared the wreck.
All of these details come from the Dispatch's account; no other outlet or official agency has confirmed them.
